The Context Window#
The name comes from a technical concept. In AI, the context window is the boundary of what a model can hold in mind at once. Everything it can see, reason about, and respond to. Outside the window, nothing exists. Inside, everything does. I liked the metaphor too much to leave it to the engineers. They have enough nice things.
This site is my context window. The stuff I’m thinking about, building with, arguing against, and occasionally catastrophizing about at 2am while a model hallucinates something confidently wrong at me. Right now that means AI, mostly. Claude Code, local models, agentic workflows, the slow dissolve of the line between software and cognition. Also why my Kubernetes cluster is always one bad config away from becoming modern art.
But also the human layer underneath all of it. The artists and engineers and people who can’t quite decide which one they are, building things they don’t fully understand yet. I’m one of those people. I came to software through music and art, which is a polite way of saying I learned to love systems by first loving songs, and then spent twenty years explaining to computers that I meant well.
The essays here won’t always have conclusions. Some questions are more useful open. Some questions I just haven’t figured out yet and am buying time. I’ll think out loud, show my work, and try to write things worth reading rather than things worth posting.
